Perioral (periorificial) dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin around the mouth. The skin can be scaly, dry, and flaky and present swollen, inflamed bumps. The treatment for perioral dermatitis involves addressing the external and internal causes. Periorificial dermatitis can be related to genetic factors, the condition of the teeth, gums, intestine, stomach, digestive reflux, occlusive skincare, and medication.
